Ben Alnwick named Bolton Wanderers' 2017/18 Player of the Year Large

Ben Alnwick has been named as Bolton Wanderers' Player of the Year for the 2017/18 campaign by the club's supporters.

The goalkeeper, who joined the club back in August 2016, has scooped the accolade with over 50% of votes submitted by Whites supporters.

He has made 40 appearances in league and cup this season, impressing between the sticks for Phil Parkinson's side with a number of man-of-the-match performances.

Sammy Ameobi finished as runner-up meanwhile, with Adam Le Fondre taking the bronze position.

Speaking about the award, Alnwick said, "It’s a great feeling on a personal level, but obviously and I have said it numerous times before, it is all about the team for me.

"If I can just keep on putting my performances in which I feel I have been, then that’s all I can do.

"Working with our goalkeeping coach Lee Butler this season, he’s up there with one of the best coaches I’ve worked with.

"Even working with Mark [Howard] and Jake [Turner], all four of us have got a really good understanding between us and training is always first class.

"That’s one thing that was made my time at the club so far and I’m sure if it was Mark in the team ahead of me, he would certainly be in the running for Player of the Year because he’s a superb keeper.

"That’s testament to the hard work that "Butts" puts in with us though and he deserves a lot of recognition.

"It’s a great feeling though and I really appreciate the fans voting for me, but all that matters to me right now is getting the win this weekend against Nottingham Forest to give us a chance of staying in the league.

"The one thing I have to say about our supporters is that they’ve been absolutely brilliant with me – they’ve been patient and don’t get me wrong, I haven’t been amazing in every game and like all players, I’ve had dips in form, but to be fair to them, they’ve always stuck by me.

"At other clubs, fans can turn quickly on players but I feel like I’ve got a really good relationship with them and long may it continue."
