Phil Parkinson is looking to add at least one striker to his ranks before Friday evening but is not anticipating losing any of his first team squad.

The Bolton boss is known to have options in the Premier League and Championship, yet it will only be tomorrow – following the conclusion of the Carabao Cup second round – that he will know exactly which players are available.

Top clubs have been keen to retain squad men in the early rounds before making a decision on loaning them elsewhere, which means Wanderers may have to act fast to secure a new addition before this weekend’s trip to Preston.

Sources at the club have dismissed suggestion that Josh Vela or Mark Beevers could leave before the deadline.

Midfielder Vela’s situation has been monitored by Leeds United and reports have repeatedly linked defender Beevers to Rangers.

Wanderers say they will not allow their squad to be weakened, however, and that both players will remain into the last year of their contracts.

If Parkinson succeeds in signing a striker he will give the green-light to Connor Hall to join one of several interested clubs in League One and Two until January.

Bolton are looking to pick themselves up from a first defeat of the campaign, suffered at the hands of Sheffield United.

And Parkinson feels there is enough know-how in his camp to avoid any hangover from a poor display against the Blades on home turf.

“We have got plenty of experience in the camp and it can’t always come from me or Steve – the lads know what is required,” he told The Bolton News. “We’ve enjoyed being in the top six. We want to stay there.”

Parkinson came under fire for making five changes from the team which had beaten Birmingham but could freshen things up again at Deepdale.

“We’ll think long and hard about team selection, as always,” he added.
