Forest Green Rovers have confirmed that the club has instigated legal action against Wanderers over the collapsed transfer of Christian Doidge.

A six-figure claim has been made by the League Two club for lost earnings after the striker spent four months on loan at the University of Bolton Stadium, during which time Rovers owner Dale Vince claims he paid the players’ wages.

Doidge returned in January and has helped Rovers into the play-off places, scoring five goals in 13 appearances.

Meanwhile, Wanderers have issued a statement confirming that talks with a potential buyer – believed to be the Football Ventures consortium – have now ended.

The club insist, however, that there are other options as Ken Anderson looks to sell his 94.5 per cent stake in Wanderers’ parent company, Burnden Leisure.

“Bolton Wanderers Football Club can confirm that discussions with one of the interested parties have now been mutually terminated,” the statement read.

“The Club can also confirm that discussions are ongoing with other parties.

“A further update will be made in due course.”
