Adam Senior had to put the brakes on a loan move to Ashton United because of a registration issue at the Northern Premier League club.

The Bolton-born defender had been set to feature in Tuesday night’s friendly against Trafford and spend the next two months with Michael Clegg’s side.

Ashton are in the process of signing a right-back who requires international clearance and were told by the Football Association that the paperwork could take up to eight weeks.

Wanderers agreed to send Senior to get some game time – but before the deal could be completed, the FA informed Ashton that their overseas signing was being fast-tracked and could be available right away.

The club could not afford to carry two players, so Senior will now look elsewhere for a loan move in the coming weeks.

Wanderers are keen to get the 18-year-old out playing regularly each weekend, with his chances likely to be limited in the first team.

The same can be said of midfielder Sonny Graham, who played in a trial game for Atherton Colls at the weekend and should learn soon if he will be joining the local side on loan.

Colls have been forced to shelve a number of friendlies because of mounting injury problems and will now not play again until September 15 when they take on Bury AFC.

Meanwhile, Ian Evatt will take his first official pre-match press conference today at the University of Bolton Stadium in preparation for this weekend’s Carabao Cup game against Bradford City.

Barring Muhammadu Faal and Dennis Politic the Bolton boss has no known injuries in his squad ahead of the Bantams’ visit, which will be played behind closed doors.
