Liam Edwards has made progress from a long-term knee injury and could return for Wanderers before December.

Ian Evatt says he is encouraged by the young defender’s return to light training after shattering his kneecap in February.

“Liam is progressing,” he told The Bolton News. “He has had one or two slight issues in that his injury was so bad that the mechanics of his knee have changed.

“He needs to build up some tolerance again to training and running.

“His knee needs to form and learn a new way of moving.

“He has had a bit of soreness but we have given him a couple of injections, lubricant that will help his knee joint glide and move smoother.

“We expect we can have him back before Christmas.”

Striker Muhammadu Faal is still on the comeback trail after fracturing his foot, the Whites coach revealed.

“He’s still not back on the grass and I’d think it will be at least another three or four weeks until he is back available.”

Meanwhile, new signings Lloyd Isgrove and Shaun Miller will be put through a two-week ‘boot camp’ to get them back in action.

“We are being a bit more cautious with Lloyd Isgrove,” he said. “When players have missed as much football as he has and not been attached to club, the more we rush him the more likely he is to break down again.

“He will be back on the grass next week but we’re going to sacrifice a couple of weeks with him to give him a mini pre-season to make sure when he’s back he’s robust enough to handle the day-to-day training and the matchday environment.

“It’s the same for Shaun Miller. We have to be careful we don’t break him down again.”
