WANDERERS have confirmed the re-appointment of local chartered accountants Cowgills as the club’s auditors as new owners Football Ventures take steps towards filing their first set of annual financial accounts.

The 180 strong firm, headquartered close to the University of Bolton Stadium on Chorley New Road, has been providing audit services since 2017 and been a supporter of the club for many years.

The company will now assist in publishing the first set of financial figures released by the club since 2017.

Speaking about the appointment, Wanderers chairman Sharon Brittan said: “Cowgills has been a valuable partner of ours for a number of years and is a big local company who cares about our community.

“In particular, I would like to make a special mention of Jason Elliott who was very helpful before we completed the takeover in providing his specialist recovery advice and he has continued to work closely with us since.

“I am delighted that Cowgills will continue to support us and be a crucial part of our onward journey.”

Cowgills audit partner Stuart Stead added: “As a business established in Bolton, Cowgills has always been passionate about working with the club.

“Although our primary focus is to deliver audit services, myself and Jason will be working closely with Sharon and the board of directors providing ongoing advice to ensure the continued success of BWFC after a challenging few years.”

Interesting. In the last 20 years or so in the UK, FD's have had an increasing amount of influence in the boardroom which has led to Chairs, elevation and even ennoblement as numbers-led business strategy has taken a grip. But businesses are holistic - does ecology-driven strategy = better bottom line for example? Having played a role in the arrival of FV are Cowgill's BWFC's FD's in reality? There are certainly hints above that suggest they're at least consulting.

I like the idea that a firm from Bolton may be motivated by the football i.e. they're fans - or more impressively that they are motivated by the importance of the club to the community and that it is in their business interest to have a thriving local business community - a sign of a healthy community - which a successful football club contributes to.

Cowgills were owed quite a lot from Kenneth's stewardship and I don't expect they were too pleased about it. They were bound to be the most obvious choice to continue in office though. Hope they get paid this time around.
