Bolton prepare for striker switch in crunch Plymouth Argyle game 13556937

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is in line for a recall for Saturday’s visit of Plymouth Argyle.

The Icelander came off the bench to score an equaliser against Morecambe on Tuesday night – his third goal in five games.

Ian Evatt says he has had to tread carefully with Bodvarsson’s fitness because of his lack of game time at former club Millwall.

He could now swap places with Amadou Bakayoko, who has himself been nominated for two player of the month awards for his goalscoring achievements last month.

“It’s tough when Jon’s missed a lot of football before he came here and we’ve tried to gain his fitness and build his fitness up,” Evatt said. “Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday is really challenging and tough so we wanted to try and keep him fresh for Saturday.

“Baka has also deserved to play. He has scored a lot of goals for us of late and done really well and tonight I thought he did well too. But I am delighted for Jon to step up and get the goal.”

At the opposite end of the scale, Dion Charles has missed some big chances in his previous two starts against Gillingham and Morecambe.

The Northern Ireland international also hit the bar on Tuesday night and Evatt hopes he can shrug off the disappointment quickly.

“Strikers go through these spells and sometimes, even the one off the bar, you just want that to go in for him,” he said. “But we will back him and support him.

“We know he is a very good player. He is a big player for us so we will get around him and keep giving him confidence.”

Despite snatching a point at the bitter end, the overall feeling in the dressing room last night was one of disappointment, said Evatt.

“I think the standards that we’ve set right now, they know what should have happened,” he said.

“The first goal, especially if you score in the first 20 minutes like we should have, it becomes a completely different game and then they can’t camp and hang on the way they did.

“I think the big chance that Dion missed, it would have been one of the best goals you’ll see at this stadium and the way we moved it, some of the combination play.

“We got away with it on Saturday as we missed some big chances then too. Against Morecambe we didn’t get away with it, so it is something we need to look at.”

Ha ha, what a load of rubbish. If they've hardly played they have to be rested, and if they've played regularly they have to be rested.

It's quite simple. Pick your best team every week.
