Ian Evatt explains Dion Charles absence in Wycombe victory 14344367

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt says Dion Charles missed the 3-0 win against Wycombe due to a “slight thigh strain”.

Kyle Dempsey bagged a brace either side of half-time for the Whites, with Aaron Morley also getting on the scoresheet.

Amadou Bakayoko came into the side in Charles’ absence and looked bright throughout, causing the Wycombe defence problems with his physicality.

Evatt says Charles’ injury is “nothing too major” but felt it wasn’t worth taking any risks with the Northern Ireland international.

The Bolton chief is pleased that Wanderers’ squad depth allows him to rotate his frontline without compromising in terms of quality.

“He’s got a slight thigh strain,” Evatt explained. “He felt it tight on Wednesday, but felt he was okay the next day.

“However, we decided to get it scanned to make sure there was nothing underlying and basically it’s just a strain.

“Obviously, with strains they can become bigger things moving forwards so we decided not to take the risk.

“And the squad we’ve got enables us to not take chances with players because Dion’s going to be a big player for us, as they all are this season.

“Nothing too major. We think probably about a week and then he’ll be back in.”

Wanderers are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Salford City in the opening round of the Carabao Cup.
