Dean Ashton's praise for wing-backs Bradley and Iredale after Charlton win 14862391

EFL pundit Dean Ashton singled out Wanderers wing-backs Conor Bradley and Jack Iredale for praise after the 3-1 win against Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks took an early lead through Scott Fraser but the Whites hit back through Conor Bradley’s equaliser nine minutes later.

Kieran Lee and George Johnston were also on target either side of half-time as Ian Evatt's men secured the three points.

George Thomson also impressed on his first league start of the campaign, while James Trafford made a couple of important saves during the second half.

But former West Ham striker Ashton was most impressed with the wing-backs and described their performances as “absolutely superb”.

Speaking as a pundit on the EFL highlights show, Ashton said: “17 shots conceded. [Charlton] couldn’t cope with Conor Bradley and Jack Iredale.

“The wing-backs were absolutely superb – joint most chances created with four each.

“The two centre-backs [Sam Lavelle and Eoghan O’Connell] I thought looked suspect when isolated when the full-backs went [forward].

“It is something that needs to be looked at. But if you are as open as they were against Bolton, then they will punish you.”

The result leaves Wanderers eighth in the League One table, having taken 11 points from their opening seven matches.

Ian Evatt’s men are back in action next weekend when they make the long journey to Cheltenham Town.

The Whites also have tough tests against the likes of MK Dons, Peterborough United and Portsmouth coming up before the end of the month.
