TEAM NEWS: Jones ruled out of play-offs with hamstring tear 16076116

Wanderers defender Gethin Jones will play no part in the play-offs after suffering a hamstring tear.

Jones was forced off during the first half of the 3-2 win at Bristol Rovers on the final day, picking up the injury while setting up Shola Shoretire’s opener.

The versatile defender should be back for pre-season but will have to watch from the sidelines during the upcoming semi-final ties against Barnsley.

Ian Evatt said: “Everyone is fine apart from Geth. Geth has got a (grade) 3b hamstring tear. It is muscular so if it is not the tendon, that is normally better.

“But at this stage of the season, obviously that means he won’t be involved in the play-off campaign. He will be back for pre-season.

“I am gutted for him, he has been fantastic this season. We will rally around him and make sure he gets the support he needs.”

He added: “Everyone else is fine. Rico has got more training in the legs and will be absolutely fine. Toaly has had no adverse reaction, so all systems go.”

Jones has played an important role for the Whites this season, making 46 appearances in all competitions.

“To be honest, I haven’t had chance to speak to him yet,” Evatt continued. “We only got the results late yesterday and this morning I have been pretty busy with training and preparing the team.

“But I am going to sit down with him this afternoon and give him some support. He has been fantastic for us from the day he walked through the door.

“These things happen in football but he has been a credit to himself and his family this season. He will be cheering us on in the play-offs and we will try to get it done for him.”

While he will not be able to affect things on the pitch, the vice-captain still has an important role to play in the dressing room.

“From the day I walked through the door, he has been with me and we have had a journey together,” said the manager.

“I am extremely proud of him as a person and as a player. He is a fantastic man and we think the world of him.

“I know he will be there for his team-mates and make sure they get his support to get the job done and get us promoted. That is the best thing that we can do to repay him – get this club in the Championship.”

Bad news for Gethin but i think the current back 3 of Toal, Rico and Johnston are the best combination for me.

Jones has the most assists in the whole squad, the same as Morley, Dempsey & Sheehan combined.

He'd be first on the teamsheet for me, it's a massive miss.
