Ten years ago I changed my car insurance to Churchill. After I had been with them a couple of years they phoned me and offered me 20% discount on my buildings and contents house insurance because I was a VALUED customer.
I have had my house insured with them for the last eight years and the premium gets automatically deducted from my bank account on the renewal date.
The insurance was up at the beginning of March and their premium was £376. I thought that was rather high seeing as I had eight years no claims with them. I dug out last years premium and discovered it was £319 and the previous year before that it was £280.
Not wishing to be the gift that keeps on giving I decided to waste an hour of my life by registering with Confused.com. (I can't stand the fat cnut who advertises Go Compare so I refuse to give them my custom.)
Anyway, I managed to get exactly the same cover for £217 so I signed up there and then. I then phoned Churchill to cancel my policy and I was asked why I had chosen to leave. I simply explained that I had got a better deal elsewhere and that customer loyalty clearly counted for nothing at Churchill. I was given a cock and bull story about how the premium is generated by a computer and that if I had phoned up beforehand they could have done me a better deal. I was then told that they could do me the same deal for £225! I pointed out that if they had quoted me £225 in the first place then I wouldn't be making this call!
My car insurance is up in September and I have told them I will be shopping around again as I have the maximum no claims bonus.
It certainly pays to shop around.
