Morgan Ferrier

This is taken from a couple of articles that appeared a few days ago. Given what's happened so far in the transfer window I'm getting an increasing feeling that DF is very focussed on the squad we may have two or three years down the road. That's fine by me as long as our more immediate ambitions don't suffer as a consequence.

Wanderers have confirmed that former Arsenal youth product Morgan Ferrier is training with the club with a view to earning a contract.
The West Bank College Stadium was the scene of Morgan Ferrier's first appearance in Bolton Wanderers colours. The former Arsenal man played a full 90 minutes alongside names such as Josh Vela, Sanmi Odelusi and Joe Riley.

News of his arrival at the club had gone under the radar, and at this point it is not known whether the 18-year-old has joined us on a permanent deal or a trial, but clearly the behind-the-scenes staff have been scouring the nation for promising youngsters to join the Dougie Freedman revolution.

Having worked his way through the Arsenal youth ranks, followed by a spell with Championship rivals Watford, Ferrier made his way to Nottingham Forest last August where he was signed by then-manager Sean O'Driscoll. It appears that since O'Driscoll was relieved of his position, the new manager, Billy Davies has seen fit to allow Ferrier to continue his northerly trajectory with Bolton Wanderers.

Reports from Nottingham Forest fans seem to be along similar lines:

He's a big, 18 year old forward with a decent shot on him. I think he's also played in midfield this season.

He's strong, athletic and I'd describe him as a target man type, although he can work for the team as well.
Good strong lad at youth level, would need to muscle up though.

Fast and shows promise, needs to control his temperament better and keep his head.
We shall watch his progress with interest.

Bit of a strange one this.

In today's Bolton News Marc Isles leads with the following title -

Bolton Wanderers checking out former Forest and Watford striker Morgan Ferrier.

The thing is though the acticle itself is all about Gary Fraiser - no mention whatsoever of Mr Ferrier (another young kid - former Arsenal junior - striker).

Someone has made a cock up online, the Ferrier story is in the bolton newspaper itself, apparently Dougie is taking a look at him for the youth academy, he is on a trial.

FORMER Nottingham Forest and Watford striker Morgan Ferrier could be closing in on a permanent move to Wanderers, according to Dougie Freedman.

The Wanderers boss has been on the lookout for young strikers to add to his development squad and invited the 18-year-old down to work with Jamie Fullarton for the next few weeks. A decision has not yet been made on whether to give the former arsenal trainee a contract but freedman admits the powerful youngster does have the profile he is looking for.



"he's on trial in the development squad," He said. "we're looking for that kind of striker and he fits the bill. We'll have a look at him over pre-season but there's nothing unusual in that. He's a good kid"

I like the fact that Dougie seems to have been active in the development squad market. We seem to have some very promising young players on our books now - practically an entire team of prospects who are expected to make the grade at some point in time.
For years we had loads of youngsters and only a few came through so if we can increase the number of "free transfers" it bodes well for the future.
