Having notched his first goal in a Bolton shirt against Doncaster in Wanderers’ last home game, Joe Mason is hoping for a case of déjà vu when Charlton come to town this weekend.

A player who is well versed with the Addicks after scoring in Cardiff City’s 5-4 defeat at The Valley last season, the 22-year-old admitted that he and his teammates will be taking nothing for granted come kick off on Saturday afternoon.

"Every game is tough in this league and you’ve got to be on your game to win, but I think if everyone performs how we know we can, we’ve got more than enough about us to go out there on Saturday and get three points," he said.

"The last game at the Reebok was fantastic and to score on my full debut was amazing – obviously there was a bit of confusion as to whether it was my goal, but I was really pleased to see that it was awarded to me in the end.

"I’ll take any goal though if I can score every week, and while I’m here at Bolton I’ll do my best to score as many as I can."

After making a winning start to life in the North West, the young centre-forward then led the line for the Whites in Sunday’s derby clash with Wigan Athletic – a game with a final result which he confessed was difficult to take.

"With Doncaster, it was really enjoyable and we got a great result, whereas with Wigan it was really disappointing.

"The players were more than aware of how big a game it is around these parts and to lose that match was hard to take."

He added: "It was a quiet atmosphere in the dressing room afterwards – everyone was just so disappointed to have lost but we’re all keen to bounce straight back, be focused on the game against Charlton and pick up three points.

"The winning goal that we gave away made it worse because it was such a poor one to concede and at the time we thought we were going to go on and win the game. We’ve got to put that behind us now though and get back to winning ways."

I made a prediction after the Doncaster match that he'd struggle on his own up front against a lot of teams, which I'm sticking by.

Talented player, but not a good fit for the system Dougie insists on playing.

Do you actually know what system he plays?

Yes.

10-1 until the opposition score, then it changes to 3-0-7 like in the school playground.....

Mason on his own up front is a complete nonsense. We played 4-5-1 today and we only looked better when Dougie changed it in the 2nd half. Mark Davies and Rob Hall didn't have enough time to really make an impact.
