Wanderers defender Tim Ream could be a £4million summer transfer target for West Brom, according to reports in the Black Country.

Baggies scouts are rumoured to have watched the US international at Doncaster last night and the club are tipped to swoop for the 26-year-old who has been one of the Whites’ star performers this season.

Whether Dougie Freedman would be open to selling the versatile defender is another matter after his consistent displays in a difficult season for Wanderers.

But West Brom are long-term admirers after being linked with Ream before he moved to the Reebok in January 2012 in a £2.5million deal from New York Red Bulls.

The defender spent a week training with Albion prior to joining the Whites.

Ream’s current contract at Wanderers runs until the summer of 2015.

Is this the rumour we were starting to get Tim into the US World Cup team?
Excellent work, although I'd have made it £7.5 million to make sure Klinsmann noticed.

Ream has become one of our better players ....so hopefully we will resist....but we better get an extension on his contract moving otherwise he will go for free in 2015.  Which would be the norm for BWFC.

Bolton Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman denies West Brom 'enquiry' for USA star Tim Ream

Dougie Freedman insists there have been no enquiries for Wanderers defender Tim Ream.

As reported in yesterday’s edition of The Bolton News, there has been speculation West Brom may be planning a summer raid to sign the United States international who spent a week training with the Baggies before moving to the Whites in January 2012 on a contract that runs until the summer of 2015.

But the Wanderers manager has stressed there has been no contact from the Hawthorns, or any other club, regarding Ream’s availability.

The Scot said: “I don’t know where that has come from.

“West Brom have never called me asking about Tim.

“You normally find at this time of year agents want to get links out there.

“It will be agent dropping it in that Premier League clubs are interested.”

The 26-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers for Wanderers this campaign, making 40 appearances – many of which have been as a stand-in left-back.

It is that versatility and form the player hopes will earn him a place in Jurgen Klinsmann’s World Cup squad this summer.

Freedman hopes he does get rewarded with a call-up after being impressed with his efforts.

The Whites boss added: “Tim has done very well for us since he has been here, he has settled well into regular football.

“If he gets the call for the World Cup then good luck to him.”
