New Wanderers boss Neil Lennon met his squad for the first time this morning, assuring his players that everyone starts with a “clean slate.”

The Northern Irishman introduced himself at Euxton alongside assistant boss Johan Mjallby and first team coach Garry Parker and will take his first press conference at 4pm at the Macron Stadium.

Speaking early this morning on TalkSport radio, Lennon outlined his ambition to get points on the board as quickly as possible in upcoming away games at Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic, but that the squad he inherited from Dougie Freedman would be given a completely fresh start.

“I just want to make an impact, put a little bit of spark back into them,” he said.

“Obviously the results haven’t been great of late but I don’t think the squad have been playing to their limits.

“When you are playing games there’s recovery you need to think about too. The volume of games you have in the Championship makes it difficult to do the work on the training ground.

“But what I want to do is hit the ground running and get some results as quickly as possible. The short-term aim is to get out of the bottom three as quickly as we can, then go from there.

“There are 35 games to go and in some countries that’s a whole season.

“So with the players, everyone is coming from a clean slate with me.”

The club also confirmed this morning that Lennon and his staff have signed a three-year contract, rather than the one-year rolling deal that was widely reported.
