Neil Lennon has confirmed former Celtic and Manchester City striker Jim Melrose has taken up the position as Wanderers’ chief scout.

The 56-year-old was appointed at the end of December after a staffing re-structure which saw much of Dougie Freedman’s scouting and analysis department leave the club.

Scot Melrose has previously worked as a chief scout for Leicester City, as a football agent, and was also linked in 2009 with a buy-out of Stockport County.

“There's been changes,” Lennon confirmed yesterday. “Jim Melrose is in as chief scout. There's James Bell-Walker who is working under him and then there are scouts out working the field.

“We felt we needed a change and I needed my own people in, so I've done that. I know and trust them.”

Melrose made more than 400 appearances in his playing career spent chiefly with the likes of Leicester, Partick Thistle, Charlton Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.
