The transfer window closing means we can't buy anyone, doesn't really affect us.

A good finisher would be on my wishlist too, but we simply can't afford one. Any donkey with a few goals in them costs a fortune (by our current standards) and I don't see the point of wasting resources if they are no sharper than what we have already - which is why I reckon Lennon has gone for a winger and an attacking RB so that more chances are created for the strikers we do have.
Wingers and FBs are simply more affordable than out-and-out strikers. We have to live within our means and at £20k a week ALF was clearly out of the reckoning so not sure who we might afford that would do a better job than our current strikers.
But unless Clough, Heskey and Madine etc start to find the goal, the club will have to weigh up the financial risk that relegation would bring - and consider if they can scrape enough dosh together to get someone - anyone - in.

It might if a competitor decided to buy one or more of our few remaining assets.

We need to take a punt on a league 1/2 striker, Andre Gray cost Brentford around £400k last year, Burnley picked up Austin from Swindon, the lad Bradshaw at Walsall has got off to a flyer again this year.

There are plenty of options in the lower leagues but they have to be scouted properly, Lennon seems to put more focus on foreign targets which is great but I think we're missing a trick not looking at the lower leagues too.

There have been a few good 'uns over the years but perhaps 10 times as many who have crashed and burned at a higher level so it's a massive risk.
Doubtful we'd be able to find someone with all the requisite attributes who hasn't been picked up already.
And let's not forget we currently have 7 strikers on the books: Woolery, Clayton, Dobbie, Heskey, Clough, Madine and Eaves so perhaps there's a better combination to explore?
Seeing as we now likely to get better service, personally I'd like to see Woolery and Clayton have a go but Lennon seems keen to support Madine and Clough even though they've not done anything so far this season.

We still have Eaves?

Clayton's still injured, Woolery's never started a game for us, Heskey can't play 90 minutes and Eaves has proved he isn't up to it. The need for a striker is desperate even though Madine's played well in all aspects except finishing. 

You're right a portion of players 'crash and burn', but that's true for any transfer. If you do your scouting properly there's loads of talented strikers who can do it at this level and higher - Calum Wilson, Lewis Grabban, Nahki Wells, Andre Gray off the top of my head all come up from lower league clubs. It's an avenue we're not exploiting well enough IMO.
