Liam Feeney knows first-hand how the pressures of administration could affect a club – but is assuring Wanderers fans that it won’t be the end of the world.

The winger helped Bournemouth overturn a 17-point deduction in the 2008/09 campaign, scoring on the penultimate weekend of the season to help secure their place in the Football League.

Wanderers are not in that position yet – their financial future resting in the capable hands of renowned insolvency specialist Trevor Birch.

But Feeney is sure that if the worst was to happen, that Wanderers can follow his old club’s lead and create a brighter future for themselves.

“I went through a similar situation,” he said of his two-and-a-half years with the Cherries, which began mid-way through that memorable campaign.

“That was probably a bit worse but they came through that and look at them now. Life throws these sorts of challenges at you and it's how you come through it “I'm more than confident that we'll get through it and we'll come out the other side, look back on it and learn from the experience and we'll be stronger from it.”

Feeney is Wanderers’ top scorer with four goals this season and will head to Hull City this afternoon looking to help Neil Lennon’s side secure a first away win since April.

After the glum financial forecasts of the last few weeks, the 28-year-old believes the game can provide a distraction from the problems off the field.

“Football is a great escape for it,” he said. “When you walk out on to the pitch you sort of forget about everything else that's going on in your life or what's going on off the pitch.

“You're just focused on the team or the man you're playing against and getting the result. It's not something that we should think about too much. We're footballers, we deal with football and let the accountants and everyone else deal with that sort of stuff.

“It's something we can't influence so it's not something I feel we need to worry about too much.

“The lads have been a bit disappointed with the run of results we've been on but we're positive in working hard to make sure that we put it right, starting Saturday at Hull.”
