Wanderers youngsters suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of their Barnsley counterparts on Saturday afternoon.

Despite dominating proceedings for much of the opening stages, the Tykes drew first blood in the clash 20 minutes in when firing home from a corner kick.

Putting their disappointment behind them however, Bolton dusted themselves down and responded well, creating a number of good chances to test the Barnsley defence and their goalkeeper.

They were eventually rewarded when Matthew Marsh levelled the scores after some excellent wide attacking down the left wing, with Max Allen crossing for the former to score from eight yards.

Looking the more likely of the two sides to win the game, they were unfortunately dealt a bitter blow late on as the Yorkshire outfit had the ball in the back of the net, with Wanderers’ claims for an offside flag falling on deaf ears as they slipped to defeat.

Speaking following the final whistle, head coach David Lee said, “We’re very disappointed to lose the game, especially in the manner of which Barnsley scored their winner.

“We feel that it was clearly offside but unfortunately the officials did not see it that way which is a real shame for the boys.

“Overall though, we had some very pleasing performances during the course of the 90 minutes with a high technical theme mixed with a desire to work hard.”

Lee’s young side are next in action when they host Crewe’s Under-18s at Lostock this coming Saturday.
