Rory Gallagher is a legendary guitarist so it has to be a 3.
Nothing can compare to the Jimmy Ruffin version but Joan osborne has a good voice so it's a 2.
I love the Smiths and Morrissey's moribund music. Not my favourite track so it's another 3.

I like a bit of slide guitar but Rory Gallagher's 12 bar is - dare I say it - a bit pedestrian. 2 for me.
Joan Osborne has a good strong voice and decent phrasing but I don't think that this is an exceptional recording seeing as the arrangement is pretty much as per the original so again a 2.
Never was a Smiths fan although Morrissey seemed less of a twat in person than his public persona suggests and I actually liked the guy, but the music is and always was too maudlin and self-indulgent for me - so another 2.

Brute force & ignorance forces me to give the first one a 3.
Second one just sounds like yet another attempt by a record company to make dollars out of a classic tune by rehashing it with the current artist of choice who is quite popular (and by definition most likely to deliver a return) at the moment - Give it 5 years and the New Bieber will be doing Subterranean Homesick Blues if it's got the potential to sell....
Hatful of Hollow - Classic album, 5 from me all day long.
