Phil Parkinson won’t let up on his search for new recruits after adding Wigan Athletic full-back Andrew Taylor to his ranks yesterday.

After landing the 30-year-old left-back on a season-long loan, the Wanderers boss could now look to bolster his attacking options ahead of this weekend’s trip to AFC Wimbledon.

Parkinson has lost the services of Derik Osede with a groin strain picked up in the EFL Cup defeat at Bloomfield Road and has concerns over two other players who have been carrying minor injuries.

Mark Davies and Chris Taylor – who have both been protected over the summer schedule – played 120 minutes of the EFL first-round tie and will be carefully monitored over the next couple of days.

Wanderers face two away games in four days but now have some cover in defence after the addition of former Middlesbrough and Cardiff City man Taylor.

“The concern I have got is that a couple of players who are carrying little injuries were not able to come off (against Blackpool),” he told The Bolton News.

“We were carrying a couple of players in that second part of extra time – and we’ll have to look at them over the next couple of days and assess them.

“Losing Derik so early killed one of the subs for us, and that can really affect you in games like this.

“But that’s the rules of the competition. Even this early in the season it goes into extra time and we’ll have to deal with it.

“We’re trying hard to get people in and hopefully something will be sorted by the time we go to Wimbledon.”

Parkinson will not let Tuesday’s result linger when he brings his players back into Lostock this morning.

“We had a big high on Saturday when we got a result against Sheffield United and then experienced a setback at Blackpool, as much as it’s right to be down, you can’t get too down,” he said.

“I want the players back in ready to roll their sleeves up – to concentrate on the excellent stuff they did do and take it into Saturday.”

One plus for this weekend could be the return of Zach Clough, who is now back in full training after a hamstring injury and should be available for selection at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
