Goals from Hall and George Newell were not enough for Wanderers to overcome the Terriers at Leyland.

It was the home side that started the brightest, George Newell had the first chance of the game after some eye-catching football from both Jeff King and Matthew Fearnley. The striker forcing Coddington into a save, resulting in a corner.

King’s corner found an unmarked Sam Lavelle who looked to have given Bolton the lead, however, his header was cleared off the line and subsequently cleared by the Huddersfield defence.

Despite dominating the opening stages of the game, Will Jaaskelainen was required to make a reactionary save to keep the scores level on the 19th minute. With Boyle bearing down on goal, the Finland youth international expertly saved at his near post.

Jaaskelainen was unlucky to be picking the ball out of his net on the 29th minute after a corner bounced around the penalty area, Kane was there to scramble home.

Yet again, the Bolton shot-stopper was called into action, this time tipping over Carvalho’s deflected shot over the crossbar.

With the first half drawing to a close, Huddersfield scored their second goal of the game. Coliville tapping home from close range following Carvalho’s driven cross.

SECOND HALF

Town scored their third goal of the game just 11 minutes into the second-half, Dyson’s quick free-kick found Edmonds-Green who found the net from two yards out.

Having replaced Fearnley during the second half, Hall would go on to reduce the deficit on the 62nd minute. After flicking the ball into the path of Newell, the striker continued his run into the box and following Newell’s pass, Hall hit the post. He wasn’t to be denied, however, as the substitute turned home at the second time of asking.

On the 72nd minute, Huddersfield had their fourth goal of the game, Carvalho’s initial shot was saved by Jaaskelainen, unfortunately for the Bolton keeper, the ball rebounded straight into the path of Carvalho who converted his low strike.

With the game all but over, Hall won a penalty after Coddington was fouled inside the box. Newell confidently stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

FULL-TIME.
