Reading - a club where Parkinson is regarded as a club legion having played 350 games for them - have just sacked their manager Stam.

They are owned by a Chinese millionaire apparently.

After working miracles for the last two years under an embargo and never actually spending a penny on buying a player, Reading will obviously have Parkinson in mind for their now vacant management post.

Also it would seem to me that Parkinson has no real say in which players are signed or sold at Bolton and may well have more control in that respect at another club.

Whether Reading come calling or not, I'm sure other clubs will have noticed how much Parkinson has achieved on nothing and he will become more and more desirable to other clubs - particularly if keeps us up this season - which he will.

If you were Parkinson would you fancy the challenge of keeping us up again next season - particularly as we need to find millions to pay off BluMarble in November - and thus probably have little if anything as a transfer budget war chest - and probably no say in how we spend it even if we had - or cash in on your great reputation at the moment and move to a club that you may well be allowed to buy players you want and probably not have your best player/s sold in the next January window because your club is so hard up!

I guess in the normal world the decision would be obvious - but this is football.

What would you do in Parkinson's position if clubs come a calling for you.

And I guess if you were Ken Anderson and some club offered silly money to get Parkinson for their next manager - would you fight to keep him - or take the money?

As the club is already sold and we are waiting until summer to announce it id hang on.  He can go for me though as big Sam will be back then.

I suspect if Parky keeps us up there will be bigger and better clubs than Reading sniffing around.

However, the pull of his old club may be too much, perhaps he'll follow in the footsteps of your idol Owen Coyle?

Alan Irvine and Micky Adams will be dusting off their tracksuits as we speak.

Are you ITK Johnny? Boggers will be upset.  Very Happy

I think Reading will be setting their sights a bit higher than Parky, but if they did want him and they offered good compensation then KA would snap their hand off.

I assume you are referring to the unsubstantiated rumour that the owner of Bet Fred has bought the club and just waiting to find out what division we are in next season to find out the price he will pay for it?

I don't believe the story myself - but then again what do I know!

If he's got this kind of money he'll do for me.

The one before it was the car firm Kia was going to buy us for some reason or other?

These rumours are the social media's version of 'the bloke down the pub told me that...'.

I wouldn't take them as gospel myself, but some do.

The article says Done has appointed Rothschild's to look into strategic options.

If "buy a football club" is their suggestion, I'd fire them off faster than a rat up a drainpipe.

As regards Parky leaving, it's fairly obvious that Anderson's attempts to break even have not succeeded - yet - so if Anderson stays we have a few more years of austerity to look forward to and even then he's likely to proceed with extreme caution as regards the transfer market. Ultimately it will come down to personal terms and commitment to the project Parky himself started versus rival offers.

I don’t seem to recall the Kia rumour either. Shocked

My memory must be failing me! Very Happy

As far as I'm aware both the Bet Fred and Kia rumours have ever been mentioned on here (I've seen them on Wways or Bolton News) because no one could actually substantiate either of them - they have just been wild speculation based on someone somewhere stating that they were definitely ITK (In The Know) that they were going to happen.

The vast majority of people have taken them with a large pinch of salt - but every so often something like this actually comes true.

I can't see it myself but I guess you never know!

Parky is mentioned on the Reading boards in a favourable way.

No - what's the point of going from one crisis ridden club to another

Karl Robinson left Charlton this morning, but his destination is probably Oxford. Parky might be tempted, because, let's face it,they have a few bob to spend.

Clement or Cotterill will get the job IMO.

Unless silly money was offered I think Parky might as well stay here till summer and get "keeping Bolton up without spending anything" on his CV.
I don't think Parky is established enough yet as a "relegation avoidance specialist" to get offered Premier League jobs and he might need to carry on the good work at Bolton another season or two.
A breaking point for Parky may come in the summer if Ken won't put any money into the team

As much as he's achieved, I don't see him ever being a Bruce Rioch type who the fans still idolise 20-30 years on.

Obviously things look pretty rosy at the minute, but if we went on a bad run now and ended up in the bottom three again, people would be straight on his back again.

According to Wikipedia, "In a vote to compile the Royals' best-ever XI, Parkinson was voted the best central midfielder with 60.3% of the vote.[6] Parkinson is still sung about by Reading fans."

Almost sounds like he could take them down to League Two and still be a legend down there.

Reading have appointed Paul Clement as their new manager.

The former Derby County and Swansea City boss, 46, succeeds Jaap Stam after he parted company with the Royals on Wednesday in his second season.
He takes charge with Reading 20th in the Championship, three points above the relegation zone with eight games remaining this season.

re : The fans still idolise Bruce Rioch

I don't idolise Bruce Rioch. Yes he did a fantastic job gaining 2 promotions in 3 seasons but he left us too soon to be someone I idolise and because he left Mcateer left, Stubbs was unsettled and we went down in bottom place. In my opinion if Rioch had stayed, Mcateer would have stayed and we would have had a far better chance of surviving. We couldnt expect  young lads like Mcateer and Stubbs to show loyalty if the manager showed none. Some of Riochs good  work was undone for me.I don't blame him for taking the Arsenal job, most people would have but I'm bothered about Bolton. He left before he had completed the job in my opinion

I idolise Sam Allardyce for the unbelievable league positions he acheived with us and the 7 1/2 seasons service he gave  the club.Sam eventually wanted out like Rioch but i couldn't really blame him for that after the amount of time he'd given us.
