Bolton Wanderers were defeated by Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After the final whistle, manager Phil Parkinson spoke to bwfc.co.uk about the following topics…
On how the game panned out…
We had a lot of the ball today, particularly in the first half.
QPR did a good job, they came and sat off of us and let us have the ball.
Even though the possession stats were in our favour, we didn’t penetrate enough with that and even though we had one or two very good chances, we didn’t threaten often enough.
We kept the ball but too often it was in front of QPR.
With off the ball runs, that is where our chances came from.
The goals were poor against us, particularly the second one.
Being 2-0 down at home is always difficult but we kept going and got back in it with a terrific strike from Josh (Magennis) and very nearly equalised with Oztumer towards the end.
The positives are that we kept going right to the very end, which you’d expect.
But we kept driving on to get back in the game but it is disappointing to lose at home.
On nearly coming away with a point…
They were always dangerous on the break with the likes of Freeman and Nahki Wells, they have some very good players.
Their (QPR) start to the season probably hides away the quality that they have got in the team.
But looking at the balance of play, particularly towards the end, we had our chances.
On Pawel Olkowski’s performance…
Pawel has again shown what a terrific player he is.
He put some great crosses in the game, in particular being the one which Doidgey nearly got on the end of.
Very pleased with him this afternoon.
On Christian Doidge’s debut…
I thought he worked very hard for us this afternoon.
Nothing seemed to fall for him in the box which was a shame, as he didn’t get the chance to show what he was all about.
He worked very hard for the team and on another day, one of those set-plays or crosses could have fallen to him.
On back-to-back away games to bounce back from this result…
Football is exactly about that, bouncing back.
You get beat and it is horrible when that happens.
We had to analyse that thoroughly and go onto Middlesbrough Wednesday night and continue our away form which has been good.
