Phil Parkinson looks for "perfect" show at Leeds

Phil Parkinson admits there can be no margin for error if his side are to claim anything at Leeds United this weekend.

Far from writing off the game, the Wanderers boss is confident he can get a reaction from his players at Elland Road following their 4-0 home whitewash against Norwich City.

Parkinson hopes there will be an incentive to go twoards the international break on a high note, with a run of six games to come against sides currently entrenched in the bottom half of the table.

Though Wanderers were well-beaten on Saturday, they remain within three points of Reading and Rotherham immediately above them – a gap which Parkinson hopes can be preserved at the very least.

“We have to go to Elland Road and believe we can get a result,” he said. “Of course, we have to look at what we can do better from the Norwich game, after which we know there is a better run coming up.

“We have played a lot of top teams in the last few weeks but the run-in is more favourable. And I believe that if we can come through the Leeds game still within touching distance of the teams above us then we have got a very good chance of staying up.”

Birmingham, Hull City and Norwich City have won at Leeds in the league this season but for Wanderers to follow suit Parkinson says his players cannot afford any let-up.

“It will have to be perfect,” he said. “You can’t sell yourself against players of that quality, you can’t switch off for a second and get done on a run because you will get punished. That is what happened against Norwich.”

Injuries have shaped Wanderers’ selection and formation in recent weeks but with Joe Williams coming through a reserve game at Leeds in midweek, alongside Mark Little and Erhun Oztumer, Parkinson could have another midfield option.

Marc Wilson is another contender after missing out against Norwich with a hamstring problem.

“We’re at full stretch at the moment,” Parkinson said. “I thought it would have been a risk to start Joe Williams against Norwich because of his injury.

“The good thing from our point of view is that they are not serious injuries and they should all be back sooner rather than later.”

Parky's idea of a perfect show is sit deep and defend all game which we plainly can't do. There's more chance of me playing against Leeds than Oztumer as well.

He said this before Norwich, and the players consequently put in one of the poorest performances yet and got twatted 4 nout
