‘Be careful what you wish for’ is one of life’s maxims we would all do well to heed.

We’ve been screaming for a decent striker all season and now we’ve ended up with a team of strikers, as the players decided to exercise their rights to withdraw their labour in response to the absolute shambles the club is now in.

Repeatedly I have said things can only get better but the club keep finding new ways to prove me wrong and this week I’ve reached new depths of utter despair at the state of my beloved Bolton Wanderers.

Oh Lord, why did you make me a Bolton Wanderers fan? Couldn’t you have given me an easier life and made me a United or City fan?

In this record-breaking season, we’ve become the first English Football League club to go on strike, although we can’t claim the British record as Hamilton Academical FC hold that from 2000.

They were threatened with expulsion if they didn’t fulfil their remaining fixtures and were eventually docked 15 points.

We are a disgrace as a club and deserve whatever punishment is coming our way.

As with St Mirren fans pre-season, we must extend our sincere apologies to the Brentford and Bolton fans who were hoping to enjoy their weekend by taking in the match.

It is difficult to know what is going on as a public war of words has broken out between the current owner, Ken Anderson, and the prospective buyer, Laurence Bassini.

I don’t know who to believe, if either, but that is irrelevant as this dispute is taking up valuable time we haven’t got as the next round of pay is due on Tuesday and the postponed court appearance is looming on May 8.

In my opinion we have got to this position after 10 years of financial mismanagement and recent events have exacerbated the problem.

Everyone who has contributed to this sorry state of affairs should hang their heads in shame.

Years ago, I was given some very good advice – remember when you are pointing a finger at someone, you have three fingers pointing at yourself.

Now is not the time for an inquest as we are not dead yet.

What we do need is for all those involved to prove they are honest and genuine and sort things out rapidly for the future of Bolton Wanderers.
