Jason Lowe insists there is no appetite within the dressing room to give up on Wanderers' League One chances.

Defeat at Coventry on Saturday left the Whites 17 points from safety with 17 games remaining.

Lowe refuses to write off the chances of survival, however, and believes his team-mates will continue to scrap for points.

“We have absolutely not given up on this season, not one bit," he told The Bolton News. “We are not just trying to see it out. We are giving every effort we can to give ourselves a chance – otherwise what’s the point?

“We owe it to ourselves as a group of players who have worked very hard in a very difficult season, the staff, fans, everyone has pulled together to try and change the club’s fortunes, from the top down.

“We definitely will not go down without a fight. We are not going to turn up to any game and just let this fizzle out, we want to give a good account of ourselves."

Lowe felt Wanderers paid for being slow out of the traps at St Andrew’s but hopes some lessons can be learned for tomorrow’s trip to Doncaster.

“It was a slow start, we got caught cold,” he said. “We went a bit more direct, got on the second balls and ran a bit harder within the shape and I think we had a bit of success, aside from that first 20 minutes.

“The manner we lost that game was disappointing. We know we have to start winning football matches if we have a chance of staying up and it’s one of those days where you are left scratching your head and thinking ‘how have we not got a point?’ “We can only dust ourselves off now and prepare for Doncaster on Tuesday night.

“We have to try and eliminate that sloppy first 20 minutes against Coventry and we'll have a chance of beating them.”
