Gethin Jones has gone to hospital for X-rays on a suspected fracture.

The Wanderers full-back was hurt in the first half of today’s 2-1 victory against Harrogate Town, eventually leaving the pitch on a stretcher.

Ian Evatt admitted after the game that medical staff were concerned about the former Carlisle defender, who has started every league game this season.

“It isn’t looking good but it’s the way things have gone for us at the moment, people getting injured,” he said.

“It was just a freak injury. The big lad, Beck, just fell on his leg accidentally and he’s going to go to hospital now for a scan and an X-ray.”

Jak Hickman came on for the injured Jones to help preserve the club’s first three-point haul of the season, which lifts them into 19th place in the table.

Evatt also made the bold call not to name a reserve goalkeeper on his bench, claiming after the game that he had decided to reward an extra outfield player after what had been an encouraging week on the training ground.

“What did we have to lose?” he said. “To be honest, the way they trained this week I didn’t want to leave anyone out.

“Even Adam Senior – who is a young boy and a fantastic lad, by the way, I think the world of him – it’s difficult to leave them out when they train the way they have this week.

“With the goalkeeper, it is what it is. They deserved a place on the bench – not that Matty Alexander didn’t – but we felt we needed to reward the effort.”

Wanderers travelled en masse, with all non-playing staff loudly supporting the team behind the dugouts at the Keepmoat Stadium.

With fans still locked out of grounds, Evatt admits his players needed to find their own source of motivation to turn around a wretched start to the season.

“It shows how much it means not just to the players but to the staff as well,” he said.

“You could even hear Tobias (Phoenix) second half – we’re all pushing in the right direction. We wanted it more than anything.

“We have been hurt by some statistics that have come about recently but, like men, we’ll take them on the chin and it should fire us up.

“The lads got a good result that we deserved so now we have to kick on from here.”

Why take an unnecessary chance when you don't have to??

Our keeper could have been sent off at anytime in the match - why play say an hour or more with someone who isn't a specialist keeper in goals AND being down to ten men as well?

Ok it didn't happen but buy them a twix and a Ribena or something for training well and don't drop the reserve keeper as a thank you for someone who put a shift in on the training ground - they should be doing that anyway!!!
