Ian Evatt has confirmed Wanderers are in talks with Kieron Lee about a deal – but has played a straight bat to links with Swansea City wing-back Declan John.

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Lee has impressed after training with the club for the last fortnight.

Wanderers are bound, however, by a salary cap and with Evatt looking to sign up to four new signings in the window he admits there will need to be further negotiation with the 32-year-old.

“We would like to sign him but it has to be financially viable, that’s the issue,” he said.

“We are speaking and will try to figure it out.

“In terms of other incomings, we have got one that is progressing quite nicely. And then there will be others which we will identify as and when they become available when the window opens.”

Reports in Wales have also linked Wanderers with a move for Wales international, John, who has yet to feature for Swansea this season.

Bolton are currently under a transfer embargo and unable to pay fees, which makes a loan move most likely for the 25-year-old.

But Evatt declined to comment on whether he will be pursuing the former Rangers man at his press conference for the Morecambe game.

“I am not going to speak about players and targets at other clubs until we have got them over the line,” he said. “That’s as far as it goes and as much as I want to say on it.”

John has found his game time limited in the Championship, starting just one game last season alongside a handful of cup appearances.

He has seven caps for Wales and primarily plays as a left-sided wing-back, a problematic position for Wanderers this season.

Evatt has used five different players on the left flank – Gethin Jones, Jamie Mascoll, Liam Gordon, Harry Brockbank and Reiss Greenidge.

We certainly need a left footed wing back, Jones tries his best on that side but doesn't do enough going forward for me.
