Ian Evatt has praised patched-up Ryan Delaney as he returns to the Wanderers fold for the trip to Mansfield.

The Irishman is available following suspension but will be showing the after-effects of his nasty ear injury at Tranmere.

“Ryan is a brave lad and his ear is healing really well,” Evatt said. “He has that bit of tape like the rugby lads have which is holding it all together.

“He’s brave as a lion and he comes back into the reckoning. Other than that we’re all fit and healthy.”

Shaun Miller also took part in his first full training session on Monday having been out since the end of November with a thigh injury.

“He trained and was exceptional,” Evatt added. “It’s just a shame he has not been fit for the full spell because I think he would have really added something to the group.”

Elsewhere, Swansea City loanee Declan John made his debut off the bench for the final 10 minutes against Leyton Orient on Saturday and Evatt admits it will be a case of easing him into action having not played in 12 months and picked up a hamstring injury on his arrival.

“He needs more time off the bench, purely for his own protection,” Evatt said.

“If you asked him if he’s ready to play, he’d say ‘yes’. But he’s not. Especially in those full-back areas.

“As you saw with Harry Brockbank and Ben Jackson on Saturday it is a really physically demanding role. We ask them to get to the back post, we ask them to get back defending. It is constant running power and lung capacity that you need.

“Declan is a speed player and it is when he is fatigued that he is more likely to get injuries in his hamstrings.

“We have to build him up slowly and he’ll get minutes again tomorrow night, no doubt. Hopefully then he might be available to start at Salford on Saturday, that’s the game we have earmarked but it will depend on results and how he feels.”
