Ian Evatt has lauded Kieran Lee’s understated leadership skills after the Bolton Wanderers midfielder played a pivotal role in his side’s 2-1 victory against Walsall at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday.

The 32 year-old, who joined Wanderers in January on an 18-month deal following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday, netted his first goal for the club against the Saddlers to set the Whites on course for their tenth victory inside 12 games.

He also earned his team a penalty which was duly converted by leading marksman Eoin Doyle to confirm the three points, leaving his manager to praise the influence he has on his team-mates.

Evatt said: “I can’t speak highly enough of Kieran. He’s a silent assassin. He’s a really quiet boy for someone so experienced. He’s not a loudmouth, you don’t hear him but he leads by example and there are different types of leaders.

"There are leaders who are vocal and there’s leaders who just lead by example with what they do day in, day out and how they carry themselves as professionals. Kieran is an amazing professional.

"We’re very fortunate to have him and I feel like he’s a lot better player than what League Two throws at you, but that’s the climate we’re in and we’ve took advantage of that and he’s playing out of his skin.”
