Why Kieran Sadlier is happy to fill in at wing-back for Wanderers 13650381

Kieran Sadlier insists he will play anywhere Ian Evatt puts him after impressing as a wing-back in recent games.

Sadlier caught the eye against Portsmouth, scoring from the penalty spot and having lots of joy on the right flank.

“It is different to what I have played before,” he told The Bolton News. I played wing-back at my previous club and it is very different because of the different styles of play.

“I get a lot of the ball here, and to feet. I can link up and move around. Today, obviously I stayed wide.

“That was our gameplan and to give the lads in the middle some space and pockets to play, which worked well at times.

“I have got a license to kind of move around and find pockets. I have played in the 10 here and can play as a winger as well.

“It is good, I can get on the ball a lot. I think in the first half, I got on the ball more. It allows me to cross, link up, shoot.

“Since I’ve come here, I have loved playing and I am loving my football again. Wherever (Evatt) puts me, I will play.”

The 27-year-old had to be patient early in his Bolton career but is now becoming an important member of the side as the Whites aim to finish the season strongly.

He added: “(Evatt) has been really good with me since I came in, obviously drip-fed me in from the start and gave me starts here and there.

“I think I have done well since I came in, in different positions. I have started the last three (games), which I am happy with.

“My fitness has never been an issue - I have always been really fit, even in training. I can get up and down the wing relatively easily.

“I just want to play football and enjoy it, and that is what I am doing at the moment. Obviously, we are picking up results – we want to win as many as we can and we should win as many as we can, against any team in this league.

“The main thing is that I am enjoying it. We just need to put a few things right and we can turn these draws into wins.”

Sadlier and Dion Charles both seemed keen to take the penalty against Portsmouth, but the wide man insists there was no issues with his Bolton team-mate.

“I am confident on set-pieces and I want to score as many goals as possible,” he said.

“I think at the time I was just confident that I was going to score, so I took the ball and was not going to let anyone else have it.

“Dion (Charles) was fine with it, we celebrated after so it is all good. He is a striker, he wants to score as many goals as possible. I am the same as a midfielder.”
