Just seen that Pele, regarded as the best footballer of all time, has died at the age of 82.

Pele was the best from the days when I was a youngster and no doubt the greatest who had ever played up to his days - and probably beyond for several years or more but things move on over the years and I doubt at his prime he could do what Ronaldo has done in terms of goal scoring in the modern era and certainly not be as magical as Messi has been.

I don't want to speak ill of him, especially today but his era was fifty/sixty years ago and fitness, formations, the speed of the game, the diets, the facilities, the money that has come into the game (in that the best players in the world are now all together in the top teams, rather than each club having one star player each) and not least the size of the of the defenders and keepers these days would probably count against Pele now being the greatest of all time.

In years to come - and for the same reasons - there will inevitably be better players sooner or later than Ronaldo and Messi.

That how both the game and players will naturally evolve - that's how life works.

Nevertheless RIP Pele.

(Almost was a BWFC manager too!).

RIP. Great player. And a bit of a boy off the pitch, if I can phrase it that way.
He admitted having so many affairs he didn't even know how many children he had.

It’s quite a shame he died the way he did.

RIP

It's strange that there hasn't been anything on the news about this.

I see V Westwood has died too, lovely dribbler.
