After clearing icy windscreens, the White Army headed for the three-sided Kassam stadium in our quest for a Play-off place.

Doombar oiled the pre-match deliberations in the nearby bowling alley while lunch was a well filled steak and potato pasty in the ground. The match programme was an eye-watering £4 but in fairness it was a very well-produced and informative publication. Hopes were high that we could get something from this match but there was concern at our growing injury list which is testing our squad to the limit, particularly in defence.

All went reasonably well in the first half with us playing our normal game, dominating possession, passing it about well and Dion Charles scoring a well worked goal.

I do not know what happened at half time, but Oxford came out like men possessed. The Yellows dominated the second half and at times, it was like a re-enactment of the Alamo. We struggled to get out of our own half, but we held firm with some resolute defending, aided and abetted by some woeful finishing from Oxford.

James Trafford was lucky to get the benefit of the referee’s doubt when he flattened their forward outside of his box. Everyone played their part with substitutes coming on to bolster the team and the Bolton crowd roaring them on to the three points.

This was a hard earned three points both on and off the field. There was a big collective sigh of relief at the final whistle from our players, management and fans.

With five matches to go to get the Play-off place, this was an invaluable result as our main rivals all dropped points. Every match is going to be a battle, not least at Burton where we got mugged last year. Injuries are really hitting us at the moment but everyone is standing up and being counted.

MJ is not the most natural central defender but full credit to him for sticking to his task and helping us to keep a clean sheet. Ian Evatt is going to have to see who is fit enough, patch the team up and find a way to get the results we need.

We are going to have to roar them on together.
