Bolton B lose five goal thriller against Fleetwood 16387581

Wanderers’ B Team suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against Fleetwood in their final home fixture of the Central League campaign.

A trialist, who has impressed in the non-league pyramid this season, scored both of Bolton’s goals but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat against the Cod Army.

Sonny Sharples, one of three players who have signed their first professional deals at Wanderers, was named in Matt Craddock’s starting line-up.

Wanderers had the better of the opening 20 minutes, with a trialist sending a shot over the bar after a clever turn.

But the visitors grew into the game as the first half went on and nearly went ahead when a cross-shot from the right crept just wide of the post.

Finlay Lockett, who has been in prolific form for the B Team in recent weeks, also went close after some good work by Matt Tweedley.

Fleetwood took the lead through a close range header on the half-hour mark after Wanderers had failed to deal with an in-swinging corner.

And the visitors doubled their lead moments later, with the Whites undone by another cross from the right.

Lamine Toure was struggling with an injury during the final minutes of the first half and was taken off at the break, which resulted in a switch to a back four.

Craddock’s side had a perfect start to the second half, with the trialist stabbing home at the far post from Lockett’s cross.

Yestin Shakespear then sent a first-time effort narrowly wide of the near post after getting on the end of Wesley Frimpong’s cut back.

Wanderers were hit with a sucker punch at the other end as Fleetwood restored their two-goal cushion from another set-piece. The Bolton players appealed for an offside but the goal was awarded.

Gio Loureiro was then denied by a fine stop from close range, before Lockett had a shot saved from a right angle.

The Whites pulled one back 10 minutes from time, with the trialist providing a composed finish after latching onto Sharples’ well-weighted pass.

But Craddock’s side were unable to find an equaliser in the final stages and the visitors left with all three points.

Litherland, Toure (Shakespear), Hogan, Tutte (Toole), Frimpong, Khumbeni, Tweedley, Sharples, Trialist (Loureiro), Lockett, Trialist

You score two goals and the Bolton News can't even be bothered to find out your name.
