Pre-Season Friendlies

The pre-season Friendly against Premier League opposition has now been announced.



Good opposition and will be a real test. Think I’ll go along to this one!

I wouldn't go to a friendly if we were playing Real Madrid.

Last one i went to was at Stockport County a few years ago and it was rubbish, a 0-0 bore draw. We had that ginger winger playing that was absolutely shite! What was his name?

Thimk he lives in America now.

Everton are small time but fair play to anyone willing to watch that. 

A big club like Leeds would have been more appealing.

Wanderers will welcome West Brom to the Toughsheet Community Stadium for their final pre-season warm-up game.

Ian Evatt’s side had been due to play ‘top-flight’ European opposition in their last scheduled friendly but saw the agreement break down at the last moment despite their best efforts.

Carlos Corberan’s Championship Baggies have provided a suitable replacement and will face Bolton on Saturday, July 29, with a 3pm kick-off.

West Brom finished ninth last season – their second successive campaign outside the Premier League - missing out on the play-offs by three points.

Their last visit to Bolton was in January 2019, a night game made memorable for the pre-match protest from home supporters against the failing reign of former owner, Ken Anderson.

The match itself was also interrupted by protests inside the stadium, which included banners and tennis balls being thrown on to the pitch.

The mood should be a lot brighter this time around, however, with Evatt’s side maintaining high hopes for automatic promotion after three consecutive seasons of progress.

The pre-season will kick off with Wanderers heading to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium to take on Bamber Bridge on Saturday, July 8 (3pm). That is quickly followed by a trip to Tameside Stadium to face Curzon Ashton on Tuesday, July 11 (7pm).

The Whites head to the Deva Stadium on Saturday, July 15 (3pm) to take on National League North outfit Chester Their final away pre-season fixture is against League Two side Salford City at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday, July 22 (3pm).

Premier League Everton will be the first visitors to the newly named TSC on Tuesday, July 25 (kick-off 7.45pm) before West Brom bring pre-season to a close the following weekend.

The two home games will also give a first test to a new playing surface, which is now being completely replaced following the end of P!nk’s two-day concert at the start of her world tour.

Wanderers’ regular season will be mapped out next Thursday with the release of the EFL League One fixtures, with the first game almost certain to fall on Saturday, August 5.

Won out final friendly against West Brom.  A last minute winner from Morley after a great back heel from Mendes Gomes.

Some great performances today - and a few issues to address
Ashworth partially at fault for Baggies' first two goals (positional) but he'll get better as he's a great prospect - and we'll be fine as we have Toal and Iredale to come back.
We learned Baxter has no left foot Nightmare goal. Gilks will be all over that in training.
It was fantastic to see that the midfield have been given licence to shoot from distance at last. It may stop last season's nonsense of opposition defences dropping very deep because they knew we'd try to walk it into the net so they'll now have to close down the shots which in turn may give the strikers more opportunities.
Conway did OK when he came on which is another encouraging sign - looks to be another good prospect.
We're in pretty good shape overall.
