Portsmouth eyeing Bolton Wanderers star Josh Dacres-Cogley? 18281286

Portsmouth are sniffing around Wanderers wing-back Josh Dacres-Cogley but have been told they must pay £500,000 to sign him.

Reports on Sunday claim Jon Mousinho’s promoted side were impressed by the Bolton defender last season and have enquired about how much it would cost to take him to Fratton Park.

Wanderers picked up the 28-year-old on a free transfer from Tranmere Rovers last season, and he was virtually ever-present in League One, playing more minutes than anyone else, and eventually being voted into the divisional team of the season.

A price tag in the region of £500,000 has reportedly been quoted by Bolton – but the fee is likely to be out of Portsmouth’s reach.

Pompey have also recruited at right-back already this season, with Jordan Williams signed on a free transfer from Barnsley to replace the departing Joe Rafferty. Sources close to the south coast club do not expect any further signings to be made in that position.

Ian Evatt has openly admitted this summer that the club would consider offers for their players for the “right price” but that he aimed to maintain a squad that is able to go one better than last season and secure promotion to the Championship.

Wanderers leaned heavily on Dacres-Cogley on their right flank last season but are understood to want to strengthen both wing-back positions this summer.

Luke Matheson returned from a loan spell with Bohemians in Ireland and could present competition this term. Gethin Jones is also viewed as an alternative but has played most of his recent football at centre-half.

Wanderers have far fewer options on the left side now that Randell Williams will miss the start of the season with a foot injury. Jack Iredale is the only senior member of the squad who has played wide left, although both Jones and Dacres-Cogley have filled in there on rare occasions.

Evatt told the club last week that he expected more transfer business to be concluded soon, adding to his three previous additions Chris Forino, Luke Southwood and Klaidi Lolos.

“It's exciting times and exciting to add to this squad,” he said. “There are still some very good players here and it's all systems go and looking to move forwards again.

“Everyone is just focused on getting better. After the summer – and it's been a tough summer – everyone has come back with a mindset and determination to earn the trust back of our fans.

“We lost a bit of that at Wembley but now it's time to regain that and I know come the start of the season the fans will be there for us. We have to make sure we are ready.

“What's important for us is if the league improves, we improve, and that's the message. The league might be better, but I do think we're going to be better as well. We're excited, we're looking forward to it and we know what needs to be done.

"If we can progress again and get better then you don’t need me to tell you where that ends for us, so that’s our sole focus at the moment.”

Josh Dacres-Cogley won't be heading to Portsmouth this summer 'Nothing in it' - Portsmouth boss plays down move for Wanderers wing-back

Portsmouth eyeing Bolton Wanderers star Josh Dacres-Cogley? 18286072

Portsmouth boss Jon Mousinho insists there is nothing in reports linking his side with a move for Wanderers defender Josh Dacres-Cogley.

Reports at the weekend credited Pompey with an interest in the wing-back, who was virtually ever-present for the Whites in League One last season.

They also claimed a price of £500,000 had been quoted by Bolton, which effectively priced the newly promoted Championship side out of the bidding.

But speaking from his side’s training base in Croatia, Mousinho played down the speculation, telling The News: “The way we’ve dealt with these over the past six months is players like that who are contracted, we’re not going to comment on them either way whether there’s any link or not.

“In Josh’s case he’s a fantastic player who was brilliant last year, but there’s nothing in it from us.”

Dacres-Cogley played more minutes than any other Bolton player last season and was voted into the League One team of the year.

Signed on a free transfer from League Two Tranmere Rovers on a two-year deal, he is one of 10 first team players who are out of contract next summer.

Evatt has said the club is not currently considering any contract renewals at present as they focus purely on assembling a squad capable to getting promotion next season.

“We have always been pretty clear that every player has a price and if someone comes to make us an offer for any player then we will look at it and see if it is right for us,” he told The Bolton News.

“Are we going to be giving out new contracts right now? Absolutely not. I think those contracts need to be earned, we need to see where we are at, and the players are probably the same. There are players in there who think they should be playing in the Championship and aren’t at the moment.

“This is just a season where we forget about individuals, personal circumstance, and together we do all we can to give it our best shot. That’s where we are at the moment.”

I don't understand all the hate JDC gets on social media. He was our best player in the first half of the season, but because we had no back up he ended up playing every game and his form dipped.

I personally think he is a decent player at this level

You've answered your own question Norpig - it's SOCIAL MEDIA and the insanity that people believe on there!

Apparently one nutjob REALLY believes I am a stalker in real life because I simply kept factually rubbishing his ridiculous belief of a multi government cover-up which started 25 years ago and is about to carry on with the new Starmer administration, conspiracy theory in respect of the Post Office scandal.

I'm sure you are sick of me reminding you that your bestest mate VOTED FOR BREXIT then lied, and lied, and lied again that he DIDN'T for the next TWO YEARS, until I outed his post he made on another forum admitting he did because he believed the lies that Boris was saying at the time.

Social media gives every moron or mentally bonkers person an opportunity to spout their bile to the world and for other idiots to believe them!

The facts show that JDC played the most minutes for Bolton last season and if he was as shit as those on social media believed him to be, then Evatt would have played someone else there instead, even players out of position (remember when Pederson played as a fullback for instance).

If he really was as crap as the moron's claim don't you think a replacement for him would have been the first signing we would have made in the summer window?

I'm not a stalker, Wanderlust DID VOTE FOR BREXIT, and JDC had a fantastic season, no matter what people say and believe on social media.

Don't believe as gospel what people claim on social media (even if it is your bff!).

It's as simple as that.
