Frankie Worthy for me, what a left peg. they thought he was finished but he almost made it back into the England squad whilst here. And of course "that goal" against Ipswich, sublime.

Worthy was top scorer in the old first division in the 78/79 season with 24 goals but he struggled to break into the England Squad because Ron Greenwood considered him a maverick.

Anelka was a joy, especially as we all thought he had come for a wage and an easy ride until somethimg better came along, which in its self showed the charisma and man management skills of Big Sam. Imagine another big name of such quality signing for Pratley loving Freedman !!! not a fucking chance folks !!

Jason McAteer, didn't we get him from Marine in exchange for new strips and balls for them? Now thats a bargain!

One of many bargains in the Rioch/Todd era. That's how Fat Sam's era was financed.

In fairness I think Sam financed his own era, got us promoted and kept us up on a shoestring budget, the money from that funded the big wages he paid out to top players, but he barely spent a penny on transfer fees until we moved for Anelka.

Phil Neal signed Jason McAteer from Crosby Marine his local non league side. Neal lived just up the road in Formby at the time. He also originally signed Andy Walker. if nothing else he had an eye for a player.

Your right and then we flogged him to Liverpool for £4.5 million, now that was good business. I wonder if Marine got a cut of the transfer fee?

Alan Stubbs? Didn't we sell him to Everton for a tidy sum?

Celtic - we did a fair bit of business with them in those days. Made money on Walker too.

I notice that Jussi is at the top of the league in the Premier Golden Gloves award with 8 clean sheets so far this season.
