Bloody Hell, I used to have a Normid sponsored shirt with Comstive on the back.

You'll be missed Mr Comstive.

Jesus! That is bad news. If I remember, he played in midfield and he used to take a lot of our corners. He was a pretty decent player for us at the time and at 52 it is far too young to die.

RIP.

He did and he was a limited footballer who played for a few clubs in the region when they were at their lowest ebb.

He gave his all though and was as tough as old boots.

He did indeed score direct from a corner, TWICE in the same match. Unbelievable but true. I was at the match at Burnden January 91 v Bournemouth and remember it well. Came to us from Burnley I think and played for a few North West clubs in his time. RIP Paul.

Your right, he did come from Burnley. He started his career at BBurn and when he moved on from us he went to Chester.

In the late 90's he finished his career at Chorley funnily enough.

Well I didn't want to mention the dreaded 'B' word Karlypants, this isn't the board for it.

I saw him gracing Wembley. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Ex-Bolton Wanderers midfielder Paul Comstive dies, aged 52

Former Wanderers midfielder Paul Comstive has passed away at the age of 52.

Southport-born, Comstive arrived at Burnden Park in 1989 from Chester City for a fee of £37,500.

He played 67 games for the Whites, 10 as a substitute, and scored five goals before moving on to Chester City in 1991, where he became the first person to score at the club’s new Deva Stadium.

Before arriving at Bolton he spent time with the likes of Wrexham and Burnley, featuring for the Clarets in their 1987 Sherpa Van Trophy final victory over Wolves at Wembley.

He is perhaps best remembered among Wanderers fans or scoring two goals direct from corners against Bournemouth on New Year’s Day, 1990.

Southport FC confirmed the news on their official website last night, stating that their former player had died of a heart attack.

I'll just clear a couple of things up from that article Karlypants.

You got him from us not Chester City.

We didn't beat Wolves at Wembley, we lost 2-0 (Comstive hit the bar with a header though).

I hadn't realised the article said that as I just posted it as an "official" article on his death.

I mentioned him coming to Bolton from Burnley and then moving on to Chester in post 12.

That will teach me to read more of the articles before scanning them and then posting!  Very Happy

Terrible reporting from the BEN though!
