Unfortunately you don't have to be part of the EU to participate - look at Russia and most Eastern European countries they aren't part of the EU!!!

Plus we are one of the big 5, ie BBC is on of the 5 national broadcaster that pays the most for it to be held hence why we go straight through to the final instead of going through the semi-finals.

I can see why BBC pays a lot for it - its financial return is massive, as it is even shown outside Europe - massive following in Australia, Canada and part of the US!!!

The real question for me is why did deeply conservative Austria allow an act like this to represent it. It's not the fact that all the numpties voted for her/him- its the fact that he/she got there in the first place.
Sweden should have won- a great song and a fairly normal ( and fit) singer.
But I didn't watch it- I was only told afterwards(!!)

I didn't see any of the songs, I just watched the voting.

I don't know if the winner was any good, all I know is I knew he was gonna win from the minute I first saw him.
