I was shocked yesterday to discover that Lovelace Watkins was dead. I knew he was getting on a bit but it turns out he passed away in 1995 in his fifties. He was often referred to as the black Frank Sinatra and although he was born and raised in America he was more popular in the UK on the northern cabaret circuit performing in Salford, Manchester and Liverpool. He married a Salford lass who he met while performing  in a night club. Some of our older posters may well remember him.

Brings back memories. My Dad was a big fan.

I was once sat next to him in the waiting room and I said to him: "What you in for? Surgery to repair ripped trousers?" (which I thought was quite droll) and he looked at me like I was simple.
