Bolton Wanderers' Head of Sports Performance Mark Leather explains the importance of a proper pre-season training programme, as the new season draws ever closer.

Leather details the meticulous preparation and the various methods used by Neil Lennon and the backroom staff to ensure the players will be ready for the season's opener on August 8.

So "Overload Training" is still one of the core tenets of Mark Leather's strategy, despite the fact that, last season, we had an injury list that wouldn't have looked out of place on The Somme in 1916.

Obviously, this guy knows far more about the subject than I will ever do, but given the fact that so many of us were asking why the Bolton players suddenly were all looking so very injury-prone and were all seemingly picking up niggles and knocks almost every week, you've got to question the method's validity, surely?
