No, he wasn't one of my tutors, but he did mark some of my coursework and finals work. Could easily have marked me down if I had upset him. It's not very impressive, from an academic point of view, to be thought of as a 'typical Sun reader' when you're studying English lit at a good university.

When I was a kid my dad always bought the Daily Mail so when I started work I did the same. I worked as a courier for a few years and during my downtime I used to read the Sun, Mirror, Express and Telegraph. I really don't think you can judge someone by the newspaper they read. With the advent of the internet the World has become a smaller place.
If I was just looking for titillation I would go for the Sport or the Star but I think they are absolute shite and are not fit to be called newspapers.

I actually miss the "Today" newspaper. I often found that a good paper to read.
If I do read a paper nowadays, its normally online and one which is subscription free.

And a decent business spreadsheet, that could have competed against the FT was "The European"
Pity neither was given more time to establish themselves 8/9 years may sound al long time but look at more established ones - with the more "recent" one being The Sun - how long did that take to establish itself.

I was in London when Today was first published. It was the brainchild of Eddie Shah and was printed in Wapping......
In my loft I have a copy of the Today newspaper from it's first day. I decided to save it as well as the first copy of the Daily Star which came out earlier in 1978..
Last year I made enquiries with an antique dealer that specialised in old periodicals to find out what they were worth. His reply was short and sweet, ' Fuck all.'

I remember buying the first edition of the Sun. It ws vastly different in them days. It was a full size paper, and if I remember rightly, the logo was a yellow sun, usually stuck in the top left hand corner. Used to read it on the tube, on the way to work, so I'm assuming 1966/67 time (ish). I liked the Today, but the pictures were always blurred, which led to the term 'Shah-vison' todescribe any thing that was out of focus.

If I remember wasn't Today the very first UK full-colour newspaper, hence sometimes being blurred, which wouldn't happen as often nowadays

Really? I'm getting confused in my old age. Could have been when I was going to my Sunday job, but that would have made me 14, and it was a weekly paper ! Back to the doctors for me

My old man used to send me to get the Daily Sketch when i was a nipper.
I think the sun was earlier about 1964 it used to be called the Daily Herald but was re badged as the sun in 1964.It was originally part of the mirror group until murdoch took it over in 1969. Suck on that fucker the sun and the mirror as stable mates.

Talking of going for the papers. When we lived in Elgin, I was always sent for the Sunday papers, and got the News of the World, The Poeple, and the Pictorial. Thats about 52 years ago !
