Following scans to an hand injury sustained against Peterborough United on Sunday, the club can now confirm that goalkeeper Mark Howard will be missing for around ten to 12 weeks.

The collision with Posh's Shaquile Coulthirst has resulted in a broken thumb and ligament damage for the shot-stopper.

And speaking after confirmation of the prognosis, manager Phil Parkinson said, “It appeared to be an innocuous looking challenge on Mark, but the scan shows we will miss him for around 10 to 12 weeks.

“To lose someone of his quality is a blow for us, but it is also an opportunity for Ben Alnwick to stake his claim for a place in the team.

“He is a very good, very capable keeper at this level."

this is a big blow as Alnwick doesn't look half as good as Howard in my opinion. Granted it's only based on the Peterborough game but his distribution was awful and he should have saved the shot they scored from.

This really is bad news. It could spell the end of our hope for automatic promotion.
We seem still to have lousy luck wen it comes to injuries.

Is there no chance of getting Amos back?

Why, do you want us to get relegated?

Probably a better option than a bloke who can't even make a decent sex tape.

Yes. It's 4 minutes long.

When is this going to end, we can't seem to keep players fit and they don't tend to be short term injuries either. you can't judge Alnwick after an appearance where he came on as a sub IMO, we need to see what he's like after a weeks training knowing he is going to start.
Howard looked unsure at first and grew into the role after forming a partnership with Wheater and Beevers so Alnwick could be every bit as good.

This was not a fitness issue... just an undisciplined player trying to block a throw out and accidentally getting a piece of Howard. Alnwick made me uncomfortable every time the ball was in our end.  Hopefully, he will improve in the next 3 months.
