Jack Hobbs faces a spell on the side-lines after withdrawing from Wanderers’ goalless draw against Accrington Stanley on Saturday at half time.

The defender was taken off as a precaution after complaining of tightness in his hamstring – a result, reasoned Keith Hill, of playing three consecutive games in a week.

Yoan Zouma played the second half as Wanderers saw out their eighth clean sheet of the season against their Lancashire League One rivals.

Asked of the Hobbs prognosis, Hill said: “Hamstring – we had a few players who were complaining.

“I just think it’s the run of games. Again, they are all nursing little injuries and not every player is going to get 100 per cent. We are going to have to do a lot of rest this week.

“Rest is so important. It’s not only going to aid their recovery, I think they need freshening up a little bit after the games they have had and the planning. Virtually every day we have been planning for another opposition and we have got another stern test coming up next weekend as well.”

Hill praised keeper Remi Matthews for preserving the point with two superb second-half saves.

“That’s what good keepers do – they do vital things at vital stages of a game and he needs to be congratulated because it gives us a better working week,” he said.

“It will be difficult this last 12 games, there won’t be a magic cure. There seriously isn’t one.”

What a surprise! Not quite in the Mavies league for being a sicknote but not far off.
