Preview: Five talking points ahead of Bolton Wanderers v Northampton Town

1. Will the Assist King continue his superb run?

Having created nine goals for Wanderers in his last four games, Filipe Morais is a man in scintillating assist form at present.

After making three of the Whites' four goals against Fleetwood Town last weekend, he then proceeded to steal the show at Gillingham by providing the crosses for all of Bolton's four efforts on Tuesday evening.

And having done the same for our last two home goals against Bristol Rovers and AFC Wimbledon, our on-fire wideman will be looking to hit double figures in the assist tallies come this weekend's encounter.

2. Three wins on the bounce for Wanderers

Returning to home soil for the first time in a fortnight, Phil Parkinson's side will be aiming to make it a hat-trick of victories inside a week when they host the Cobblers.

Consecutive wins over Fleetwood and Gillingham have seen Bolton put themselves within a point of the automatic promotion spots with a game in hand on the second-place Cod Army.

And currently unbeaten at Macron Stadium in four outings, they will be eager to continue their momentum as the season heads towards its conclusion.

3. Familiar faces on the opposing side

There will be a number of familiar figures lining up against Wanderers this weekend, including one who was only on the books of the club earlier this season.

Keshi Anderson, a former loanee with the Whites, joined Town after returning to parent club Crystal Palace in January and to date has scored three goals for the Cobblers.

Former Bolton midfielder Matt Taylor - who played at Macron Stadium between 2008 and 2011 - is also impressing for Northampton after moving there last summer alongside Gregg Wylde who also spent time with the club back in 2012/13.

4. Home goal for Alfie

After breaking his goalscoring duck against Fleetwood last Saturday, can Alfie find his first goal at Macron Stadium since his return to the club this weekend?

Notching twice at Highbury in the 4-2 victory, the diminutive forward also scored in midweek against Gillingham at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

He is yet to find the net in front of the Whites' home faithful however - a statistic that he will be eager to banish this Saturday.

5. Will Wheavers score for a third match running?

It's certainly been a week to remember for our central-defensive pair with both scoring in consecutive games against Fleetwood and the Gills.

David Wheater's efforts have seen him hit seven for the season, while Mark Beevers' boasts an impressive four goals for the club since his summer move to Macron Stadium.

And with Wanderers having proven themselves to be set-piece whizzes in recent weeks, the towering duo will be hoping to continue their respective purple patches in front of goal come 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

Beater sounds more menacing and centre-halfy.

Ref watch: Clark to take charge of Northampton Town clash

Richard Clark will officiate Wanderers’ Sky Bet League One clash with Northampton Town this weekend.

He has overseen 21 matches so far this season, issuing 66 yellow and three red cards.

Clark has been involved in the game for the past seven seasons and last took charge of a Bolton game when the Whites hosted Burton in the Capital One Cup in August 2015.

His last Town fixture meanwhile was back in February when the Cobblers beat Chesterfield 3-1 at Sixfields.

Barry Gordon and Billy Khatib will run the line, while Anthony Tankard is the fourth official.

Just had a very strange experience. Getting off the train I hear some Northampton fans chanting about how they would lose..... I can't remember the last time I heard somthing like that... This whole winning on a regular basis is taking some getting used to.

What's wrong with Beevers?

I like Beevers. A lot.

Rolls off the tongue better.

Derik keeping his midfield place ahead of Spearing and Karacan is interesting but it looks like the strongest bench we've had for a long time. I really hope that it is genuinely coming together instead of being yet another false dawn. Bring it on!

Well we had to do it the hard way, otherwise known as the Bolton way, but great response to going 1-0 down.

Great to see Morais score, nobody deserved one more. Great deliveries again today, shame nobody could get on the end of them.

Either way, great result up to second onwards and upwards.

COYWM!

Not the greatest performance we'll ever see, but the best team won. I don't remember Northampton having a shot on target other than the goal.

But the difference is confidence. More often than not being a goal down with half an hour left would be the end of the game, a draw the best we could hope for. But today I always felt we could win, even before the penalty. Not felt like that for a long time.

We'll get dicked at Oxford though.

Sorry to be pedantic (not like me, I know) but you can't have a "best" team out of two.

We may have been "better" than them but you can't say that we were the "best".

Bollocks. Of course you can have a best team and a worst team. Don't talk rubbish.

Not if you're only distinguishing between two teams you can't.

So shut up.

Although the first half wasn't the best, i really enjoyed today a proper footy match,

If ALF puts away the chance before the penalty it would have been a goal of the season contender.

Spirited come back and drama right up to the last kick. MOM linesman lol

I agree that the bench now looks very strong, it's in our hands. Tuesday cold give us daylight, it's a tough game but no tougher than Fleetwood.
