WANDERERS will have to ‘go with what they have got’ at Tranmere Rovers today after Phil Parkinson was told he could sign no further reinforcements with the club’s ownership still in a state of flux.

Despite significant concerns being voiced by the club’s medical staff about the workload which has been placed on some of their younger players, no new registrations were made by lunchtime yesterday to ease the load.

It is understood the possibility of suspending the game was considered by the club and EFL, owing to the lack of playing resources at Parkinson’s disposal and potential welfare issues with Under-18s drafted into the senior set-up.

Bolton have had a number of free agents training in the last few weeks looking to earn a contract including Will Buckley – now said to be interesting Doncaster Rovers – Billy Clarke, Ben Pringle and Craig Conway.

It has been claimed for a number of weeks that several players lined-up over the summer could be signed quickly in the event of a takeover but with no visible progress on that front, Parkinson has reluctantly agreed to patch up the squad which played at Rochdale in midweek.

The decision to go-ahead with the game was made late on Thursday but no official explanation has been offered by the administrators on why they did not seek to bolster the squad. One source has claimed, however, that some are reluctant to sign with the ownership issues still unresolved.

That situation now looks unlikely to change until Monday at the earliest despite the club’s administrators insisting their end of the deal has progressed as far as it can go.

Their preferred bidders, Football Ventures, are one of at least two parties being considered by administrators at The Bolton Whites Hotel, who said late on Thursday that they were “still awaiting confirmation that they are in a position to proceed” with the deal.

Around 2,000 Wanderers fans are heading to Tranmere today but there will be no ticket sales at the turnstiles.

Liam Edwards will not feature because of a problem with his Achilles, which means Jordan Boon could be brought in for his full debut for the club. Dennis Politic has also been described as “60-40 against” to feature after complaining of a hip problem.

The players will also wear a new yellow away kit, manufactured by Hummel but still without a principal shirt sponsor, for the first time.

Embarrassing. I could run forever when I was 16, 17 or 18.

I agree the young uns ought to be able to run forever. Pele was in the Brazilian national team at 16 years old wasnt he? He scored a world cup winning goal aged 19 or something or other.
