the BEN ran an article a few weeks ago (as they have several times in the past) stating Stuart Holden was close to a return...

From what I heard in pre season we was looking at october time for a return to the 1st team squad. Then another set back and it was going to be a December come back. I just have a feeling that it's going to be another set back or if he is to come back around xmas I would be worried he could pick up another injury. All we can do is hope he comes back and shows signs of his 2011 form.

I can see Wheater coming back in Jan and working his way back in to the starting XI.

Getting Wheater back in January would be fantastic.

Shopping list for me would be:

-Warnock, but less than £2mill that the BENs reported.

-A right back. Even with Wheater back I don't want Mears rotating with Ricketts.

-Central Midfield, good all rounder, quick on his feet, creative and can pass, don't care about strength as long as hes not a stick.

-Striker, athletic and proven goal scorer

With those and Wheater back we would have a much stronger team!

Holden won't play this season imo. Then his contract is up in the summer so he might not play for us again.

Things are too quiet on the Holden front to make me believe he will be back in a white shirt this season.

As for Wheats, his due date back is March so I can't see him being in the 1st team before the end of the season.

After so long out, I doubt Stu will get back to a level were he can perform in the PL/Championship, I reckon he'll be back in an MLS side this summer. Another career ruined by injury.

Holden was at a meet and greet with the fans a few weeks ago. He said his training preparations were coming along according to schedule and that he hoped to be fit to play in January. He sounded quite optimistic so maybe it's just a case of no news is good news.

As per Chungy ..... there is no reason to believe Holden will be anything close to his old form. Players coming back from long term injury are rarely the same. In fact I can't think of a single example off the top of my head. Look at Stevie Gerrad, Michael Owen etc.

Can you blokes think of any?

Henrik Larrson- double break of his leg and he came back a year later more prolfic than before. But you're right- examples like this are few and far between

I know he's had a lot longer out but I saw him play against Villa last season after a long lay off and he ran the game, looked quality.

A good sign at least. I can't believe he'd come back worse than Pratley or Andrews.

The thing with Holden was that he wasn't just good on the ball, he was clever, made the right decisions and lifted the team, something that an injury won't change.

Even if hes 80% the player he was he would still be our best central midfielder by a way.

I tweeted Alan Nixon the other day about Holden. Holden is back in training, but progress is slow! Surprised
