Wolves sack Solbakken

Wolves manager Stale Solbakken has been fired after just six months in the job following their 1-0 FA Cup loss at Luton.

The Norwegian boss only took charge at Molineux in the summer but had been presiding over a terrible run of form and a Cup defeat to non-league opposition turned out to be the final straw for the board.

Wolves are on a run of just three wins from 17 games and, far from challenging for an immediate return to the top flight, they are in danger of slipping into relegation trouble.

The Midlands side are 18th in the Championship at present, six points clear of the drop zone.

Sean O'Driscoll to Barnsley was reportedly a virtually done deal. Incidentally, he's Wolverhampton born and bred. It will be interesting to see if tonight's news changes things.

I'm keen for both Coyle and Megson to get jobs, just to make things interesting from a Bolton perspective, but I'd be shocked if either got this one. Megson is a bad choice and ex-WBA, and Coyle is just a bad choice.

Sounds to me from that, that Coyle had already had his application in but Wolves didn't want to know.

Solbakken went stale at Wolves. It was only a matter of time.

Coyle will be lucky to get another job above championship level for a long time IMO.

If he had been sacked whilst we were still in the prem then I imagine you would have seen him in a managers position by now but getting sacked from a club who everyone thought should be top of league but lying in 18th doesn't do much for the CV.

If you can't mastermind a win against a Conference team when you're managing a team that has just spent 3 seasons in the Premier League, you're asking for trouble. I think Wolves fans won't have a lot of patience for Saunders though, not a big name and got Donny relegated last season. But bollocks to them, I hope they go down even further, hillbilly club!
