Yeah, but being able to get about is a necessity, having a sprog isn't.

No, Ok I understand im letting sentiment get in the way of judgement again but I do honestly believe that a woman's right, her Raison d'ĂȘtre even is to have a baby. You may disagree, but I think it is.

Im not saying lets throw unlimited money at them, on the contrary but I just think they should be given a chance.

My point was if you can't afford IVF then how are you going to afford to look after a child. It will cost the mother tens of thousands of pounds. Probably hundreds of thousands actually to bring that child up. People really need to consider this before having kids.

I once shagged this Grandma down the side of Lidl. When I woke up I realised I hadn't used a jonny and she probably wasn't on the pill. Dark days.

Now that is a word of warning for anyone serious thinking about BH (apart from his mum and sister) - If he doesn't care what he may pick up, includinh becoming HIV+, the he will have no qualms in infecting others.

BH is a dangerous, vile individual!

After a quick scan of the above posts I thought I would add my own personal penneth. Me and the misses have been trying for a kid for 12 months now. Nothing has happen so on Monday morning I was at Old St Marys hospital (oxford road manchester) for to specimen test. I am hoping for a kid soon and hopefully it won't come to IVF for my wife and I.

So the other day I turned up at the Andrology(?) ward a nurse showed me to a private room. I had my wicked way with myself handed over my love juice for them to test. My doctor will call me next week with the results so fingers and toes crossed my swimmers are ok. Thinking ahead though, it is a massive relief that if it get's to the IVF stage it is there and provided by the tax payer. So my view is, if age is just a number and obviously people try for kids at 18 others are trying at 50, then why not provide them with the same treatment. Life expectancy has steadily risen so isn't this expected at some point?

Hope things turn out well for you and Mrs Bic, I really do.

My child is the single most precious thing to me - well that is when I don't feel like strangling her a la Homer and Bart!

Truly hope you are blessed mate.

I wish you luck, but forgive me for possibly being insensitive, but do you really think IVF should be made available on the NHS when some people can't get the drugs they need to stay alive?

Isn't IVF a luxury after all?

Good luck mate, and if you need IVF i hope you get it on the NHS. I don't mind my tax money going to fund this at all, at least you will bring your children up good and healthy , some people have children and don't want them FFS.

I'd rather the government use tax money for people who want children, than to fund the money for people who don't !

IVF is a luxury. Having a child is a life choice. If you can't conceive naturally then it is a shame but to have children is not a right. The NHS, if I am correct, is supposed to be there to give people medical assistance when they need it to live. And by live I mean everything from cancer to twisted ankles.

You don't need a baby to live healthily.

And, if a baby is so important to you that you need one, as in it is the thing that will make or break your life you will be prepared to save up to pay for it. Won't you?

And if you can't afford it, can you really afford to bring a child into the world with all the cost that goes with it?

And, as I said before, having kids is a life choice. You pay for other life choices. Perhaps if you have IVF you should get it on a loan.Like a student loan. If I want to go to uni to improve my life I have to pay for it. I can't get that on the NHS because I feel like I need it.

**********

And may I just add.

If you feel like you need a child so badly that you need IVF on the NHS then perhaps rather than IVF you should receive counselling to help you to cope with the reality that you can't have children. And maybe you should be encouraged and educated in the adoption process, there are so many unwanted children who need families - if everyone gets IVF, who is going to adopt?

Bloody hell JayJay that's a bit harsh.

I hope one day you don't find yourself in a position where you want to start a family and can't, nor afford the means to do so.

Sluffy, it was not meant to be harsh really. I know it sounds like that now that I read it back. I am one of the most empathetic people I know but I also try to be a realist too. If I found out I could not have my own children by natural means I am sure I would be gutted but I would not expect that the NHS should pay for it.

I spent 6 years unable to do anything I liked, unable to turn up to uni, play football, go for walks, couldn't even put my own socks on at times or stand up for a wee because of a back problem that affected every part of my life. I missed out on my degree, years of socialising and innumerable other aspects of being alive. The treatment I needed existed but wasn't available on the NHS and it wasn't even expensive (comparatively). I had to put up with it. And the irony was that I couldn't work so I couldn't pay for my own treatment. I couldn't get a loan either because I was out of work.

I could potentially understand an argument for IVF on the NHS for certain married couples of a certain age but to increase the age and extend it to gay couples is beyond belief in my eyes when there are people who can't get the help they need for cancer and back problems.

If an IVF child ever grows up to become a doctor, and sorts your glass back out JJ, i bet you'll change your mind.
